Get Set For Summer With Stikins Name Labels

stikins summer name labels

Yesterday saw the arrival of the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. With schools across the UK already closed or preparing to close for the summer holidays, we thought we’d celebrate the season of summer by taking a look at all of the ways you can use your Stikins name labels over the next few months.

Stikins…The Perfect Summer Name Labels

Our stick on name labels have been designed to stick on and stay on – all year round. Our unique adhesive forms a super strong adhesive bond, which will hold your name labels firmly in place. They can be applied onto the wash-care label of clothing and fabric items or directly onto other items. Stikins are perfect for labelling shoes and bags, lunch boxes and water bottles, stationery and books, or mobiles and tablets.

You can put labelled items through washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, or even the good old kitchen sink. Stikins have been independently tested for 40 washes at 40 degrees. They’ve also been thoroughly tested by thousands of families across the UK.

We’ve also sourced a special ribbon for printing our name labels. Some market leading sun creams and lotions contain ingredients that cause standard printing ribbons to disintegrate over time. Our ribbon is resistant to these ingredients, which means your print will remain perfectly legible all summer long – even when clothing labels rub against skin (and the sun cream that you’ve applied).

Stikins Name Labels For Summer…Wardrobes

Get all your summer wardrobe labelled up with Stikins name labels. When using Stikins as clothing labels, you should apply each sticky label onto the wash-care label of your clothing. They can be used to label all of your clothing – as long as there is a wash-care label. This does mean that Stikins don’t work well in socks.

You can also use them in shoes; apply your name labels onto the side wall or beneath the tongue of shoes. If you apply them below the foot, the print will be worn away.

Stikins Name Labels For Summer…Holidays

Stikins are also a brilliant way to label up all your gear that you’re taking away on holiday with you. From buckets and spades, camping gear and sports equipment, water bottles and towels, through to teddy bears and picnic gear, you can use our stick on name labels to make sure everything makes it safely home again. If you are labelling clothing or fabric items (like swimming costumes and towels), you need to apply your name labels to the wash-care label. Any other items can be labelled simply by sticking your sticky labels directly onto each item and smoothing them down firmly with your thumb.

Stikins Name Labels For Summer…Back To School

While getting back to school is probably the LAST thing your kids (and you) want to think about at the start of summer, it’s always good to be prepared. We will be printing and posting name labels every day throughout the summer. So, when you’re ready to think about back to school, we’ll be on hand to get your order despatched and delivered.

Stikins are great for use as school uniform labels as well as sticky name labels for all the other absolute “essentials” that your children have to / want to take to school with them in September. Again, you should make sure you apply Stikins onto the wash-care label of clothing and fabric items, onto the side wall or beneath the tongue of shoes, and directly onto all other personal items.

Our name labels are white stickers printed with a bold black font, which makes them really easy to read (especially in a hurry). They’re also the perfect size; at just 30mm wide by 15mm high, they’re neat and discrete so nobody will notice them until they’re needed.

We’re Celebrating #BritishScienceWeek With The Science Of Name Labels

science of name labelsGOOD LUCK To Everyone Participating In British Science Week Events From The Stikins Name Labels Team!

Today marks the beginning of this year’s British Science Week – actually a 10 day celebration made up of thousands of events taking place all across the country to celebrate STEM subjects, while also raising awareness and encouraging people (of all ages) to get involved with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – at home, at school, and at work.

We hope all of our school fundraising partners who are taking part in British Science Week have a truly amazing and inspiring time exploring the world of STEM over the next ten days.

The Science of Stikins Name Labels

November will see the 15th anniversary of our own project – Stikins name labels – which we’ve continued to develop and improve upon year after year – after year! We’re always researching new materials and manufacturing methods to find ways that we can improve our name labels, bit by bit, introducing more advanced materials, adhesives, and ribbons to produce name labels that simply stick on and stay on.

Creating name labels that “stick on and stay on” is a tricky business – especially when you think about how much a name label has to endure. From the rough and tumble of everyday wear and tear to repeat cycles through the washing machine – name labels have to put up with a lot. While you might not think of a washing machine as being a particularly challenging environment for clothing labels, everyday cleaning products and modern washing machines actually create a pretty aggressive environment, which will cause standard adhesives to fail. Plus with new technologies, materials, and ingredients being developed for clothing, cleaning products, and washing machines, stick on clothing labels have to constantly adapt to keep up with the new challenges created by the fast-moving pace of innovation and development in our modern world.

This is why it is so important to us to keep investing in brand new materials and technologies for our name labels. We want our customers to be able to rely on Stikins to be clothing labels, school uniform labels, shoe labels, bag labels, coat labels, lunch box labels, water bottle labels, and anything-else-that-needs-a-name-label-labels that are simple and easy to use – so they can safely and securely label their stuff in minutes and then forget about labelling and get on with the more fun things in life.

We’re working on making our name labels into the ultimate name label; simple and easy to use sticky labels that can be used to label pretty much anything and everything – from clothing labels for school uniform through to general purpose name stickers for all of those “essential” extras that children won’t go to school without.

Ordering Name Labels From Stikins

Whether you need clothing labels or school uniform labels, shoe labels or P.E. kit labels, lunch box labels or water bottle labels, book labels or stationery labels, or all of these (and more), Stikins name labels are a thoroughly modern way to get all kinds of things safely and securely labelled.

Stikins can be ordered online (at www.stikins.co.uk), by phone, or by post; if you would like to find out more about our name labels, you can take a look through our information pages online or get in touch with our Customer Service Team to discuss any questions or queries that you’d like to ask!

ABC Stikins Name Labels

A Is For… An Adhesive That Creates Super Sticky Name Labels

Our name labels have a unique adhesive that creates a super strong adhesive bond that stays firmly intact – even after repeat trips through the rough and tumble of a washing machine (and the tumble drier too!). The Stikins adhesive has been specially developed and independently tested to ensure that your name labels will stick on and stay on – whether you use them as clothing labels, shoe labels, water bottle and lunch box labels, or miscellaneous “stuff-that-just-needs-a-name-label” labels.

The strength of our adhesive means that all you need to do is apply your sticky name labels firmly to the items you want to label and you’re done – so there’s no need to spend hours sewing on name tapes or ironing on iron-on labels.

You should apply your name labels onto the wash-care label of clothing and fabric items; this is how Stikins were tested and, while we can guarantee they will work on wash-care labels, we cannot guarantee that they will work on all of the different materials and fabric blends used to make clothing. If you use your Stikins as shoe labels, avoid placing them directly beneath the heel (this causes the print to wear off) – we recommend applying your name labels to the side wall or beneath the tongue.

B Is For… A Bold Font That Creates Practical Print For Name Labels

Stikins are white stickers printed with a bold, black font to make it REALLY easy to read the name on each label – even if you’re in a rush. We use a special ink to print our name labels, which is resistant to certain ingredients used in children’s sun creams and lotions that cause other inks to disintegrate over time – so they will remain clear and legible all year round. You can request whatever information you like on your name labels – the only rules are:

  • We can only print alphanumerical characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9), basic punctuation, and these accented characters:
    À Á Â Ä Ã Å Æ à á â ä â å æ È É Ê Ë è é ê ë Í Î Ï ì í î ï Ô Ö Õ ò ó ô ö õ Ù Ú Û Ü ù ú û ü Ç ç Ñ ñ Ý Ÿ ý ÿ Ø ø Ð ð ß ƒ
  • Our system automatically selects the largest font size that allows all of your information to fit on your name labels (which measure 30mm wide by 15mm high) – so the more text you add, the more your font will be reduced in size. We recommend no more than 15-20 characters per line.

C Is For… Clothing Labels That Can Do Much, Much More

Most parents buy name labels solely for their children’s school uniform BUT with Stikins you can use one pack as clothing labels, shoe labels, lunch box labels, water bottle labels, book labels, stationary labels, bag labels, P.E. kit labels, and – yes – much, much more!

Our multipurpose sticky name labels can be used to label pretty much everything and anything (with the exception of socks, which don’t have a wash-care label and stretch too much for a successful adhesive bond). Plus, while the majority of our name labels are used by parents to label school uniform and equipment, they’re also a popular way to label belongings in residential care homes where clothing is put through shared laundry services and personal items are often left in communal areas.

Autumn - Stikins Names Tags

Tonight, at 21:02, the Autumn Equinox will take place, traditionally signalling the transition from summer to autumn. “Equinox” comes from the Latin word “aequinoctium”, which is made up of “aequus” (meaning equal) and “nox” (from “noctis” meaning night) – there are TWO equinoxes each year, which mark the moments at which the sun is directly above the equator making night and day (roughly) equal in length.

The two equinoxes occur each year in March and September and they are known by a variety of names including:

  • The vernal equinox and autumnal equinox (the Latin words for spring and autumn)
  • The March equinox and September equinox (indicating the months during which the equinoxes take place)
  • The northward equinox and southward equinox (indicating the direction of the sun’s movement across the equatorial line – in March this is south to north and in September it is north to south)
  • The First Point Of Aries and the First Point Of Libra (derived from the constellations that the sun appears to be in front of at the moment of the equinox – confusingly, due to the very gradual change in the orientation of Earth’s axis of rotation (the line from the north pole to the south pole) these constellations are actually currently Pisces and Virgo).

The autumn equinox has traditionally been used as a symbol of the change from summer to autumn (in the northern hemisphere; in the southern hemisphere it marks the passage from winter to spring) and is often used as a traditional time for harvest festivals around the world.

Name Labels Inspired by the Seasons…

Given that today marks a change in season, we thought we’d take a look at how the four seasons fair amongst our customers as names with a seasonal flavour! Autumn is actually the second most popular season amongst Stikins ® customers with Summer being the most popular and Winter taking third place – sadly, none of our customers (so far) have requested name labels printed with Spring.

With the shift into autumn, children across the country will be settling into the first term of the school year and gathering an ever impressive array of paraphernalia to carry around with them – including winter warmers, once the weather takes another cooler turn. Our Stikins ® name labels can be used to label all kinds of clothing and personal items, including hats and gloves, coats and scarves, and shoes for the autumn and winter months.

Order Personalised Name LabelsToday

While the back to school rush might well be firmly over, we’ll be continuing our daily production runs so you can rest assured that your name labels will be made and despatched same day (up to 3pm) or next day. You can also request a special next day delivery service by phone (shipping cost: £5.75) if you need to receive your name labels before an upcoming event, such as a residential trip or holiday.

You can order name labels from Label Planet online by using our handy online form, or you can order by phone, a member of our team will be more than happy to help!

Name Labels Vs Sun Creams – How To Make Your Labels Last All Summer Long

Friday, July 7th, 2017

You may have noticed that we describe our Stikins ® name labels and Trons ® name transfers as being “resistant to children’s alcohol-free sun creams and lotions” and perhaps wondered why we mention sun creams as being a particular problem for name label products.

Name labels are often applied into clothing where they come into contact with skin OR onto personal items (especially lunch boxes and water bottles) that are handled a lot, which may result in sun cream being transferred from the skin onto a name label. Modern sun creams are made with increasingly advanced ingredients designed to boost the protection offered by these products (for example by increasing the level of protection, improving water resistance or durability, or simply making a product easier to apply) and, while these ingredients do make sun creams and lotions extremely effective, they can also be quite damaging to the surfaces that they come into contact with over time – including name labels.

While name labels themselves are unlikely to be damaged (they are, after all, designed to withstand repeat cycles through washing machines and/or dishwashers), the printing inks used to personalise these labels may not be resistant to some of the ingredients used in sun creams and lotions – which can result in the print disintegrating or smearing away completely.

Name Labels for Summer

Beating The “Blockers”

Sun creams and lotions often contain “blockers”, which are ingredients that protect us from sunlight by preventing (or blocking) ultraviolet light from reaching our skin (by reflecting, scattering, or absorbing UV rays). A common example is titanium dioxide, which is a particularly popular ingredient because it is believed to be less irritating than other chemicals – making it ideal for use in products that are intended to be used by children or individuals with sensitive skin.

While titanium dioxide is brilliant at providing protection against harmful UV light, it is also extremely damaging to some printing inks – which is why we have sourced an advanced ink for our name label products that is fully resistant to titanium dioxide (as well as other similar ingredients used to produce sun creams and lotions).

The Problem With “Alcohol”

Unfortunately, there is one ingredient used in SOME sun creams and lotions that our ink is NOT currently resistant to – and that is alcohol. Alcohols are used in sun creams and lotions for a variety of reasons; some make sun creams more opaque (less transparent) or thicker or less greasy, some act as emollients (moisturisers), some help to preserve sun creams (so they last longer “on the shelf”), and some are used as carriers – particularly in sun sprays, where the alcohol helps to propel the spray more efficiently.

The problem is that alcohols are solvents; solvents are capable of dissolving other substances and this includes some printing inks used to personalise name labels. While our printing ink is not fully resistant to alcohol (or other solvents), this doesn’t mean that your name labels won’t survive the summer.

Firstly, alcohol is only used in SOME sun cream products and many manufacturers offer alcohol-free alternatives. Sun creams and lotions designed for children and individuals with sensitive skin are – as a general rule – among these alcohol-free product ranges.

Secondly, the risk of damage tends to exist immediately after a product has been applied (i.e. while the sun cream is drying or being absorbed into the skin); as long as you allow plenty of time for your sun cream product to dry or absorb in place, there won’t be any danger of the alcohol coming into contact with, and therefore damaging, the print on your name labels.

Don’t Lose Out To The Lost Property Box Of Doom; Use Stikins ® To Keep Your Children’s Stuff Safe!

Monday, January 9th, 2017

name labels lost property

While we can’t do anything to help with cases of the back to school blues, we can help make sure that your children’s belongings make it safely to school and back again, day after day, throughout the rest of the school year.

Stikins ® name labels are a brilliantly simple solution to the problem of lost property and can be used to label school uniform, equipment, and all those essential extras that your children absolutely have to have with them. These labels simply peel off their backing sheet and then stick on and stay on; they can be applied onto the wash-care label of clothing and fabric items, or directly onto personal items, such as books and bags, stationery and equipment, tablets and phones, or coats and shoes (in shoes, stick them beneath the tongue or onto the side wall – NOT beneath the heel).

Our labels measure 30mm wide by 15mm high and are plain white labels printed with a bold, black font; this means that our name labels are totally discrete when they aren’t needed but are really easy to find and read when they are needed – so if your children’s belongings do get mixed up with someone else’s or go missing and turn up in the Lost Property Box, it’s extremely easy to identify them and bring them home (and you don’t have to abandon items on the Lost Property Heap simply because your child point blank refuses to take something home because there’s no way to prove that it doesn’t actually belong to someone else).

Stikins ® name labels take seconds to apply and give you an easy way to safely and securely label ALL of your children’s belongings (although, as a fair warning, they’re not great on socks). We offer four pack sizes (30, 60, 90, or 120 labels) and you can order anytime via our website or you can give our Customer Service Team a call to order over the phone.

If you have any questions about our Stikins ®, please visit our dedicated Information Page or get in touch with our Customer Service Team. Give us a call to place an order over the phone or visit our Stikins ® product page to place an order online today.

Remember, Remember The 5th November…Is An Excellent Time To Buy Name Labels For Winter!

Saturday, November 5th, 2016

name labels bonfire

If you’ve made big plans this Bonfire Night we hope you have a marvellous time; whether you’re planning to build a splendid bonfire, watch a spectacular fireworks display, or simply have some fairground fun and food, we hope that you have a brilliant evening (and we’ve got everything crossed for good weather!).

Of course, we’d also like to point out that this is an excellent time of year to make an order of name labels for all those winter-related jobs that need doing. For example, if you’ve already dragged your winter wardrobe out from the back of your cupboard/wardrobe/attic/alternative storage space, you may well have a whole heap of winter warmers to get safely and securely labelled so they don’t go missing when you and your family need them most. From woolly hats and snuggly scarves to big, BIG coats and colourful mittens – winter means keeping track of a lot of accessories, which need to be put on, taken off, put on, taken off and it’s all too easy for something to get put down and left behind (for adults as well as children!).

You may also be planning to chase after some winter sun or have plans to spend your Christmas in a winter wonderland, on a warm sandy beach, or at home with friends and family, which means you might want to order some extra name labels to get all your holiday stuff safely labelled before you go (so you don’t end the year with someone losing their favourite jumper, cuddly toy, or other holiday essentials).

Name Labels for the Holiday Season

Name labels are also an ideal tool for dealing with (some of) the chaos that goes hand in hand with Christmas. Perhaps you’re looking at a crazy couple of weeks filled with event after event after event (after event), with school trips, residential trips, Christmas concerts, and Nativity performances – each of which will come with its own list of required “essentials” that need to be carted to and from (and around) different venues (usually in amongst a whole heap of identical or very, very similar belongings). Adding a name label is a quick and easy way to help make sure that your children can keep track of their stuff throughout the holiday season.

Our Stikins ® name labels are an easy to use multipurpose name label solution that can be used to quickly and securely label all kinds of items, including clothing and personal items. Each name label measures 30mm wide by 15mm high and is a plain white label printed with a bold black font to make sure that the information on the label is extremely easy to find and read when needed. They have been successfully tested by an independent laboratory using the BS EN ISO6330 wash test procedure for 30 washes at 40 degrees, and can be used to label any items that will be put through a washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, or microwave. With clothing and fabric items they must be applied onto the wash-care label to ensure that they stick properly, while they can be applied directly onto other personal items (if you use them to label shoes, you should apply them under the tongue or onto the side wall and NOT directly under the heel).

We make and despatch name labels EVERY DAY (Monday to Friday), with all orders we receive by 3pm being posted out same day by Royal Mail’s first class service – so you can make your order, receive your name labels, and get your stuff labelled quickly and easily, and then get on with the more fun things in life!

To get organised this winter, simply head on over to our Stikins ® product page to start placing an online order today!

To Use Stikins ® Or To Use Trons ® – That Is The Question…

Tuesday, October 25th, 2016

name labels decisions

Here at Label Planet, we supply two very different kinds of name labels, which means that we often get questions from customers who aren’t sure what the difference is or which ones are the best ones for their needs.

So, we’ve put together this quick-fire guide to help you decide!

What’s The Difference & How Do They Work?
STIKINS ® are stick on name labels that simply peel off their backing sheet and stick onto the wash-care label of clothing (and other fabric items) or stick directly onto personal items. They are made of an extremely flexible plastic with an advanced adhesive. Each of these super slim labels measures 30mm wide by 15mm high and is a white label printed with a bold black font, which means they are easy to read when they are needed but are unobtrusive and discreet when they are not needed. They’re also very smooth, which means they won’t cause any discomfort if they happen to brush against skin when labelled items of clothing are worn.

TRONS ® are iron on name transfers that work in the same way as the transfers used to add designs to T-shirts; each label is made up of a single, extremely thin, layer of material that is impregnated with ink (to form the printed name or information that you want to be displayed) – during application, the transfer fuses and bonds with the material of the item being labelled to effectively become a part of the item itself. This creates a completely permanent name label on any fabric item, with the white background and bold black font making it easy to find and read when needed.

What Items Can They Be Used To Label?
STIKINS ® can be applied to pretty much ANYTHING. They can be used to label any fabric item with a wash-care label as well as personal items, such as bags and shoes, lunch boxes and water bottles, books and stationery kits, or phones and tablets. If you want to label fabric items (such as clothing, bedding and linens, or even toys), you should always apply your Stikins ® to the wash-care label; this is because fabric items are made using so many different material blends it would be impossible for us to test our adhesive on all of them. Instead our name labels have been tested on wash-care labels, which are usually made with one specific type of material. Applying them to the wash-care label also means that the labels tend to be discretely tucked out of the way until they are needed.

The ONLY items that they aren’t much use for are items like socks, which don’t have a wash-care label and are designed to flex around the foot as they are put on, taken off, or worn – this means that they don’t have a stable surface for the adhesive to bond with, which means that the name labels will tend to peel up or fall off.

TRONS ® can only be applied to fabric items and should be applied directly onto the material of these items (as they don’t tend to bond well with the glossy finish found on most wash-care labels).

How Do I Apply Them?
STIKINS ® simply stick in and stay in; all you need to do is carefully peel each name label off its backing sheet and apply it to the wash-care of your fabric items or directly onto any other personal items you wish to label.

To get the best possible results from your Stikins ®:
Apply them to the wash-care label of fabric items and wash new items of clothing before you apply your name labels. Leave your labelled items for 24 hours before you wash them for the first time to allow the adhesive to fully strengthen and set. When applying Stikins ® onto shoes, you should always apply them onto the side wall or beneath the tongue; if you apply them directly below the heel of the foot, the friction generated by movement will cause the print to rapidly disintegrate and wear away.

TRONS ® require a little more time (and a lot more patience) but are supplied with a simple six-step set of Instructions For Use leaflet to help guide you through the process:

  1. Find a hard flat surface (not an ironing board), turn the clothes inside out, and set your iron to its maximum heat setting (do not use steam).
  2. Cut or tear your silicon sheet into pieces slightly larger than a single name transfer (each piece should be used once).
  3. Put your garment on the edge of the surface and put a transfer face up on the very edge.
  4. Put a piece of your silicon on top of the label (shiny side down).
  5. Iron over the silicon paper with the tip of your iron; press down firmly and move your iron from side to side for 25 seconds.
  6. Remove the silicon paper (while still hot); allow your transfer to cool and then gently check if the label is completely fused into the item – if it is not, repeat step 5.

So, which should I choose?
It is entirely your decision but you should consider the following:

  • If you need to label a mix of fabric and non-fabric items, Stikins ® are the more cost-effective choice because you can buy one pack to label everything.
  • If you only need to label fabric items, you can choose to just order Stikins ® or just Trons ® but do remember that Trons ® will always require a bit more time and patience to apply correctly.

To place an order, visit our Stikins ® Product Page or our Trons ® Product Page. You can also find out more about our two name label products by visiting our dedicated information pages: Stikins ® Information & Trons ® Information.

Half Term Is Nearly Here But Never Fear; We’ve Got Name Labels For ALL Your Kids’ Gear!

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

name labels school labels

Yes, the first half term of the school year is almost already over and we’re hurtling with ever increasing speed towards Christmas, which means that it’s a good time to slow down and take stock of your children’s pile of school uniform and equipment to see if you need to make a half term (top up) order of name labels to see you through the next few weeks (and, hopefully, beyond!).

You might already be a name label convert who simply needs to stock up their stash, has been handed a new list of required uniform and/or equipment for the next half term, has found a few items that somehow escaped your September labelling session, or perhaps you need to replace a few items that have (somehow) already been outgrown or damaged beyond repair (in some apparently inexplicable manner). Alternatively, you might be someone who hasn’t tried name labels yet but wants to give them a go after a disastrous half term of things going missing.

Here at Label Planet, we despatch all of our name label orders on the same day (Monday to Friday, up to 3pm) so you can rest assured that your name labels will be on their way to you in no time at all – and you can get everything labelled in a flash and then get on with making the most of your half term holiday.

You can place an order online anytime or give us a call (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm); our Stikins ® name labels are the perfect name label solution for busy families who have a lot of stuff but not a lot of time to spend labelling it all. Our multipurpose name labels simply stick on and stay on – and you can label clothing and fabric items (apply your labels to the wash-care label only) or onto a whole range of personal items and school kit, including bags and shoes (do not apply your labels beneath the heel of the foot), books and stationery kits, P.E. equipment, arts and music supplies, and phones and tablets.

Visit our website now to place a quick and easy online order or contact our Customer Service Team to place an order by phone.
