When Is A Name Label Not A Name Label? Alternative Uses For Our Multipurpose Name Labels…

Thursday, March 3rd, 2016

While it’s true that our Stikins ® name labels were designed and developed specifically for the purpose of labelling school uniform (and equipment), the sheer versatility of our stick on name labels means that they can be used for a whole host of other tasks and applications.

Our name labels are made with an extremely flexible vinyl and a highly advanced adhesive, which allows them to form a superbly strong adhesive bond with a wide range of surfaces under a range of conditions, even when a label application requires them to remain firmly in place on unusual materials or curved surfaces.

We have a variety of customers who purchase our labels for non-school-uniform related purposes, ranging from individuals who’ve come up with an unusual use for them in the home to companies and organisations who use them for the day to day running of their business.

Here’s just a few of the alternative ways our name labels can be used:

Organisation, Filing, & Storage
As our name labels are so superbly sticky, they’re a fantastic label to use to get organised at home or at work. Whether you use files or plastic boxes to keep everything organised, our Stikins ® will stay firmly in place and they’re ideal whether you simply need to keep the office organised or you’ve got children’s bedrooms to (attempt to) keep clean and tidy.

Medical Alerts
We have a number of customers who order labels printed with medical or allergy information, which can then be used as medical alerts to keep medical supplies and/or food and drink containers clearly and securely labelled. Whether you (or a relative or child) have medical equipment that must be on hand at all times (especially in busy, shared environments) or you simply need to make sure that your (or your relative’s or child’s) food and drink are clearly labelled, our name labels will adhere firmly onto the containers that these items are stored in or directly onto the equipment itself. They’re a useful way to both keep equipment and food supplies safe so that they’re always on hand AND they can inform others of your (or your relative’s or child’s) condition should an emergency situation arise.

Product / Material Sample Labels
As our name labels are designed for the purpose of labelling fabric items, they’re a brilliant tool for use as product or sample labels on fabric items – especially where the items you need to label are made of more unusual materials that standard adhesives may struggle to adhere to properly.

Please note that we would highly recommend testing the suitability of these labels for your specific application; our labels have been tested for their ability to adhere to the wash care label of fabric items only and as such we cannot guarantee that they will bond as efficiently if you attempt to apply them directly onto a particular fabric.

Asset / Batch / Tracking Labels
A number of our customers are companies or businesses who want highly durable labels that can be used to mark up their products and/or property to carry asset information, batch information, or as a means of tracking the movement of these items around a business (or beyond, if items are loaned out to individuals).

You can request labels that are printed with your company details, with a particular department or building, or with space to add in batch or tracking information that will be assigned to items at a later date.

For more detailed information about our Stikins ®, please visit our Stikins ® Information Page; if you are considering using our name labels for an alternative purpose and you have any questions or would like to request a sample, please contact our Customer Service team to discuss your requirements.

What Do You Think Of Our Name Labels? – We Want To Hear From You!

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

While we do our best to test our name labels and update our website and services regularly, we know that the very best way to find out if our products and services are up to standard is to ask our customers. It’s the people who buy our labels and use them every single day who know the ins and outs of how well Stikins ® and Trons ® work, which is why we encourage all of our customers to let us know what they think.

When you order from us, we’ll send you an email a little while later to ask for your feedback. It’s up to you if you want to respond, but we’d love it if you could let us know what you think.

We use all of the feedback we get to improve our name labels, our website, and our customer service to make sure they’re the best they can possibly be – plus, we find that our customers come up with all sorts of creative uses for our labels and incredibly insightful suggestions for improvements, that we’d probably never think of on our own.

Of course, you don’t have to write us a review – you can always get in touch with us to let us know what you think, whether you want to have a chat on the phone, send us an email, or even send us a note in the post!

Need Some Advice On Which Name Labels To Choose? Read Our Reviews From Parents Just Like You…

Thursday, August 6th, 2015

As with just about anything else you might want to buy, there is huge variety in the types of name labels that you can purchase for labelling school uniform (and equipment) – so much so that it can get a bit overwhelming trying to choose the right product for you.

Our name labels were created with parents in mind and are designed to keep the process of labelling school uniform and equipment as simple as possible; our Stikins ® name labels simply stick on and stay on and that’s it!

Of course, we know that there are a lot of other companies saying similar things about their own products, which is why we invite all of our customers to leave us a review in which they can share their own experiences with us and with other parents.

So, if you want to know how our name labels work and what other parents think about them, simply take a look through the reviews on our website. We’ve received over 1300 reviews so far, including reviews from first time users to repeat customers who’ve been buying labels from us for years.

We read all of the reviews we get and – where we can – we act on all of the suggestions that we receive to improve our products and services. We know that while we can do our best to test our products and set up our services to be as easy as possible to use there’s nothing like the practical experiences of our customers when it comes to making sure our name labels are the best they can possibly be.

We also find that our customers are far more creative than we could ever be – they’ve come up with a whole heap of ways to use our labels and they’ve given honest feedback about what they like (and what they don’t like) about our products so both we and new customers can find out exactly what Stikins ® name labels are like at home.

FAQ – Can I Stick Stikins ® Onto… AKA Yes, They Really Do Stick Onto Almost Anything!

Tuesday, August 4th, 2015

In a world where the idea of name labels still conjures the traditional scene of an endless pile of woven name labels that need to be endlessly stitched into an endless pile of school uniform, some of our customers find it hard to believe that Stikins ® simply stick on and stay there. We often get emails and calls from customers who want to make absolutely sure that their Stikins ® will definitely just stick on and to double check that they don’t need to do anything else (with “so I DON’T have to iron them?” being an oft repeated phrase). We’ve also received a handful of reviews beginning with a phrase that goes something along the lines of “so I didn’t think these labels would work but…”.

But YES! They really do just STICK ON and STAY ON!

And there’s really nothing more to it! You simply peel each label off the backing sheet and stick it down – as you would with any kind of label. Our Stikins ® will survive washing machines, tumble driers, dishwashers, AND microwaves so they can be used to label all kinds of clothing AND all kinds of personal items that you want to keep track of.

It’s all down to the advanced adhesive used on our labels, which has been developed specifically for the purpose of labelling school uniform and equipment. This adhesive has been tested and improved over the years (using the latest materials and manufacturing processes) to make sure that our name labels remain the best they can possibly be – and if our independent testing isn’t enough, these labels have also been thorough and rigorously tested by thousands of families across the country year after year.

So, can you really stick them onto anything?

Pretty much. We advise that if you are labelling clothing or similar items, you should always apply Stikins ® to the wash care or garment label. This is because these labels tend to be made of similar materials AND this is where the labels were applied during testing. While our labels can be stuck directly onto clothing and materials, there are so many different combinations of materials that we cannot possibly test them all and so we cannot guarantee that Stikins ® will definitely work if you stick them directly onto clothing.

The soft, pliable vinyl means you can also apply them onto a range of personal items, whether they have a flat or curved surface and the use of these labels is pretty much only limited by how many different things you can think of to label.

In fact, we often find ourselves being surprised as we read reviews from our customers who have come up with a whole heap of creative ways to use their labels! We’ve had customers use them for swimming costumes and equipment (including woggles, floats, and goggles), camping equipment for Guide and Scout groups, medical equipment and supplies, and a whole heap of cuddly toys.

Of course, you may have noticed that this blog post does make use of the word “almost” quite a bit. Alas, there is one item that our Stikins ® name labels have always struggled with – the dreaded pair of socks!

Unfortunately, socks don’t have wash care labels and they are designed to stretch and move around the foot as they are put on, worn, and taken off, which means they don’t have a consistent surface for the adhesive on our name labels to adhere to and form a permanent bond. If you do apply Stikins ® to socks, you may find that they seem to stick on okay at first but as soon as you stretch the sock, the label will begin to peel up and away from the sock.

[Of course, if you REALLY want to label your socks, you can always try our OTHER name label product; Trons ® name transfers, which can be applied directly onto the material of ANY item of clothing.]

It wasn’t that long ago that we wrote about all of the lovely reviews that we’ve received from our customers – and the fact that we were nearly at the 1,000 reviews mark.

Well, here we are, just over two weeks later and – with the help of our customers – we’re delighted to announce that we’ve passed the 1,000th review mark.

Where STIKINS ® Stick & Why

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

We provide our customers with an instruction leaflet that (hopefully!) makes the process of applying STIKINS ® as simple and clear as possible. We also offer a few hints and tips to help our customers make sure they get the best results – so here’s a couple of tips AND the reasons behind them.

1. APPLY STIKINS ® TO THE WASH CARE LABEL OF GARMENTS
We often get customers asking if they can stick STIKINS ® ANYWHERE on their garments and the short answer is “maybe”. When our STIKINS ® went through independent laboratory testing, they were applied to the wash care label of garments – which means that we know for sure that they will work when applied to the wash care label. Wash care labels tend to be made of similar materials, while garments may be made from a huge variety of materials – making it extremely difficult to test EVERY variant of garment thoroughly. So, while STIKINS ® MAY adhere to your particular garment, we can only GUARANTEE that they will work on the wash care label – which is why we only ever advise customers to apply STIKINS ® to the wash care label.

2. APPLY STIKINS ® TO THE WALL OR TONGUE OF SHOES
Our number one tip for applying STIKINS ® to shoes is do not stick them to the floor of the shoe. The heel of your child’s foot will constantly rub at the label and the print will not survive long. If the label is stuck onto the wall of a shoe or under the tongue, there is much less contact that could cause the print to wear off.

3. WASH NEW GARMENTS BEFORE APPLYING STIKINS ®
We advise customers to wash brand new clothes before applying STIKINS ®. This is because brand new clothes may have traces of excess dye or chemicals that have been used to preserve items during storage and despatch. These traces can interfere with the adhesive on our STIKINS ®, so washing clothing first makes sure that there are no elements left that could prevent the STIKINS ® from sticking properly.

You can find more hints and tips on our blog or on our Frequently Asked Questions page.
