Name Tags FAQs – Questions & Queries

For this week’s blog post, we’ll be looking at (and answering) some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about the print on our personalised name tags…

Questions About The Font On Stikins ® Name Tags…

Q. Can I Choose A Font For My Name Tags?

A. No – all of our name tags are printed with a single standard font.

Q. Can I Choose The Font Colour For My Name Tags?

A. Our name tags are white in colour and so we have chosen a single font colour (black) that will allow your text to stand out clearly and legibly on your name tags.

Q. What Font Size Will Be Used To Print My Name Tags?

A. We don’t use a specific font size; instead our system counts up the number of characters you have requested and automatically selects the LARGEST font size that will allow your text to fit onto your name tags (which measure 30mm wide by 15mm high). This means that the MORE characters you add, the SMALLER the font size will be on your printed name tags.

Questions About The Text On Stikins ® Name Tags…

Q. How Much Information Can I Include On My Name Tags?

A. It’s up to you BUT you need to bear in mind that the font size is determined by how much text you request. So, while you CAN request as many as 22 characters per line, we recommend using NO MORE than 15-20 characters to get the best possible font size.

Q. What Information Should I Include On My Name Tags?

A. Again, it’s up to you. The majority of our customers request a first name and a surname but you can add additional information if you wish; for example, we have printed name labels with contact information (e.g. a phone number), medical or allergy alerts (e.g. “Nut Allergy”), room numbers (e.g. for care homes and nursing facilities), and friendly messages (e.g. “I Belong To”). We recommend using no more than TWO pieces of information and arranging your text so that one bit of information goes on the top line and the other goes on the bottom line.

Q. Can I Leave One Line Blank To Fill In Later?

A. Yes! Simply enter a blank space using the space bar on your keyboard to leave the top or bottom line blank. If you wish to write additional information onto your name tags you will need to make sure you use a suitable pen, such as a laundry pen, to avoid your text washing away.

Q. Should I Use One Line Or Two Lines On My Name Tags?

A. Our online order form defaults to the two line option and we recommend keeping this layout UNLESS you are requesting a very short amount of text; for example, if you want the name “Alex Bay”, you will get a larger font by selecting the one line option than if you select the two line option. We recommend using two lines unless you are requesting less than 15 characters in total.

Q. Can I Include Accented Characters On My Name Tags?

A. Our system is able to print a selection of accented characters from the standard European keyboard as follows:
À Á Â Ä Ã Å Æ à á â ä â å æ È É Ê Ë è é ê ë Í Î Ï ì í î ï Ô Ö Õ ò ó ô ö õ Ù Ú Û Ü ù ú û ü Ç ç Ñ ñ Ý Ÿ ý ÿ Ø ø Ð ð ß ƒ
We can ONLY print characters from the English alphabet and do not offer a printing service for other character sets/languages.

Q. Can I Include Emoji Or Pictures On My Name Tags?

A. Unfortunately, our system can only print text-based characters and we cannot include emoji or pictures on your name tags (although you can use standard punctuation marks to create your own emoticons!).

Q. Can I Split A Pack Of Name Tags Between Two (Or More) Names?

A. Our printing system processes each pack of name tags as a single item and so we are not able to split a pack between different names. If you are unable to purchase separate packs, you could try one of the following workarounds:

  • If your family shares a surname (or the same initials), you could request a surname (and/or initials) only.
  • Enter one name on the top line and the second name on the bottom line so you can – carefully – cut your name tags in half.
  • Select the one line option and enter the first initial followed by the surname followed by the second initial so you can cut off one of the initials.
  • Add both names to the top line of your name tags (e.g. “Harvey & Eddie”) so they can be shared!
