Festive Names From The Twelve Days Of Christmas

For the 12th day of the 12th month, we’ve picked our favourite festive names inspired by the Twelve Days Of Christmas. Plus, we've put together a quick update about ordering last minute Christmas name labels.

Celebrating Our Top Twelve Names Of Christmas

We all know the traditional version of the Twelve Days Of Christmas so this year we've created our own. For the Twelve Names Of Christmas, we've picked a festive name, or names, that (sort of) matches the gifts given each day.

Names Inspired By The Twelve Days Of Christmas

  • Juniper for A Partridge In A Pear Tree
Some versions say juniper tree; an evergreen tree often used as Christmas trees.
  • Dove / Jemima / Paloma / Callum for Two Turtle Doves
These names mean "dove" in English, Hebrew, Spanish, and Latin.
  • Noel / Noelle / Noella for Three French Hens
These names are based on the French word for Christmas - Noël.
  • Robin / Robyn for Four Calling Birds
Originally colly birds (or "coal-black" - meaning blackbirds), calling birds are songbirds - like the robin.
  • Balthazar / Caspar / Melchior for Five Gold Rings
The three wise men brought gifts, including gold.
  • Berry / Cherry / Clementine / Ginger / Honey / Olive / Saffron for Six Geese A Laying
Like eggs, these names are also ingredients in many traditional Christmas dishes.
  • Bora / Edurne / Eira / Eirwen / Fannar / Fjolla / Haukea / Lumi for Seven Swans A Swimming
An alliterative leap here! You might not go swimming if it snows and all these festive names mean snow.
  • Lucia / Lucy for Eight Maids A Milking
In some parts of the world, St Lucia or St Lucy's feast day (13th December) is an important part of Christmas celebrations.
  • Dasher / Dancer / Prancer / Vixen / Comet / Cupid / Donder / Blitzen / Rudolph for Nine Ladies Dancing
Or nine flying reindeer! Santa's reindeer are probably female as males lose their antlers mid-winter.
  • Nicholas / Nick / Claus / Klaus for Ten Lords A Leaping
The Dutch figure Sinterklaas was based on St Nicholas and inspired stories about Santa Claus and Father Christmas.
  • Luke / Matthew for Eleven Pipers Piping
Pipers might play songs about the Nativity, which appears in the Gospels of Luke & Matthew.
  • Bell / Belle / Carol / Eve for Twelve Drummers Drumming
Some versions say Bells A Ringing; like the bells that are rung as carols are sung on Christmas Eve!
