Top Tips For Getting The Best Out Of Your Name Labels

Monday, December 12th, 2016

While our name labels are designed to be as simple as possible for busy families to use, there are a few top tips that you should follow to make sure that your Stikins ® and Trons ® work as effectively as they possibly can:

1) Follow the Instructions for Use!
This applies to ALL of our name label products. While our Trons ® iron on name transfers will always require a little more care and patience to apply properly compared to our stick in name labels, you should make sure you take the time to read our Instructions for Use AND follow them to make sure that your name labels will simply work.

EVERY pack of labels we send out is individually packed with its own set of Instructions for Use AND you can download a copy of both our Stikins ® Instructions & Trons ® Instructions from our website.

2) Be careful WHERE you apply your name labels
There are slightly different rules for each of our name label products:
Stikins ® name labels (suitable for clothing and personal items): should be applied onto the wash-care label of garments and fabric items, directly onto other personal items, or onto the side wall or beneath the tongue of shoes.
Silver name labels (suitable for personal items): should be applied directly onto personal items or onto the side wall or beneath the tongue of shoes.
Trons ® name transfers (suitable for fabric items only): should be applied directly onto fabric items (not on the wash-care label).

3) Check that your items are in a suitable condition before you apply your name labels
ANY item that you label should be clean and dry to ensure that the adhesive has a suitable surface to bond with. If you are labelling clothing (especially brand new items of school uniform), you should make sure that the items have been washed once before you label them – this removes any traces of excess dye or chemical preservatives that have been used during manufacturing and storage.

4) Store leftover name labels properly
If you have bought a larger pack of name labels that you can dip into as and when you need to, you will need to make sure you store the pack appropriately to allow your labels to maintain their original quality. We recommend storing your name labels in a dry place, out of direct sunlight, and preferably at a steady room temperature. When stored properly, our Stikins ® name labels will retain their original quality for the first two years and our Trons ® name transfers for the first five years.

5) Take care when washing, drying, and ironing labelled items
Our name labels have been thoroughly tested to ensure that they will work effectively during a NORMAL cycle of washing and drying clothing – including undergoing independent testing using the BS EN ISO6330 wash test procedures for 30 washes at 40 degrees. To get the best results from your name labels you should:

  • Avoid washing at more than 40 degrees.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure that you are using the correct amount of cleaning product(s) for the amount of clothing you are washing and the hardness of water in your area.
  • Avoid ironing directly over your Stikins ® name labels, silver name labels, or Trons ® name transfers; our Stikins ® and silver name labels will melt if they come into contact with an iron, while ironing directly over our Trons ® will cause the print to disintegrate over time.
  • Avoid soaking labelled items in extremely strong, highly concentrated cleaning products (such as bleaching products).

To find out more about any of our name label products you can visit our dedicated information pages: Stikins ® & Trons ®. You can find our Instructions for Use on our website, read through our FAQs page for more tips and advice, or you can contact our Customer Service Team if you have any particular questions or queries about our products that are not answered on our website.

To Use Stikins ® Or To Use Trons ® – That Is The Question…

Tuesday, October 25th, 2016

Here at Label Planet, we supply two very different kinds of name labels, which means that we often get questions from customers who aren’t sure what the difference is or which ones are the best ones for their needs.

So, we’ve put together this quick-fire guide to help you decide!

What’s The Difference & How Do They Work?
STIKINS ® are stick on name labels that simply peel off their backing sheet and stick onto the wash-care label of clothing (and other fabric items) or stick directly onto personal items. They are made of an extremely flexible plastic with an advanced adhesive. Each of these super slim labels measures 30mm wide by 15mm high and is a white label printed with a bold black font, which means they are easy to read when they are needed but are unobtrusive and discreet when they are not needed. They’re also very smooth, which means they won’t cause any discomfort if they happen to brush against skin when labelled items of clothing are worn.

TRONS ® are iron on name transfers that work in the same way as the transfers used to add designs to T-shirts; each label is made up of a single, extremely thin, layer of material that is impregnated with ink (to form the printed name or information that you want to be displayed) – during application, the transfer fuses and bonds with the material of the item being labelled to effectively become a part of the item itself. This creates a completely permanent name label on any fabric item, with the white background and bold black font making it easy to find and read when needed.

What Items Can They Be Used To Label?
STIKINS ® can be applied to pretty much ANYTHING. They can be used to label any fabric item with a wash-care label as well as personal items, such as bags and shoes, lunch boxes and water bottles, books and stationery kits, or phones and tablets. If you want to label fabric items (such as clothing, bedding and linens, or even toys), you should always apply your Stikins ® to the wash-care label; this is because fabric items are made using so many different material blends it would be impossible for us to test our adhesive on all of them. Instead our name labels have been tested on wash-care labels, which are usually made with one specific type of material. Applying them to the wash-care label also means that the labels tend to be discretely tucked out of the way until they are needed.

The ONLY items that they aren’t much use for are items like socks, which don’t have a wash-care label and are designed to flex around the foot as they are put on, taken off, or worn – this means that they don’t have a stable surface for the adhesive to bond with, which means that the name labels will tend to peel up or fall off.

TRONS ® can only be applied to fabric items and should be applied directly onto the material of these items (as they don’t tend to bond well with the glossy finish found on most wash-care labels).

How Do I Apply Them?
STIKINS ® simply stick in and stay in; all you need to do is carefully peel each name label off its backing sheet and apply it to the wash-care of your fabric items or directly onto any other personal items you wish to label.

To get the best possible results from your Stikins ®:
Apply them to the wash-care label of fabric items and wash new items of clothing before you apply your name labels. Leave your labelled items for 24 hours before you wash them for the first time to allow the adhesive to fully strengthen and set. When applying Stikins ® onto shoes, you should always apply them onto the side wall or beneath the tongue; if you apply them directly below the heel of the foot, the friction generated by movement will cause the print to rapidly disintegrate and wear away.

TRONS ® require a little more time (and a lot more patience) but are supplied with a simple six-step set of Instructions For Use leaflet to help guide you through the process:

  1. Find a hard flat surface (not an ironing board), turn the clothes inside out, and set your iron to its maximum heat setting (do not use steam).
  2. Cut or tear your silicon sheet into pieces slightly larger than a single name transfer (each piece should be used once).
  3. Put your garment on the edge of the surface and put a transfer face up on the very edge.
  4. Put a piece of your silicon on top of the label (shiny side down).
  5. Iron over the silicon paper with the tip of your iron; press down firmly and move your iron from side to side for 25 seconds.
  6. Remove the silicon paper (while still hot); allow your transfer to cool and then gently check if the label is completely fused into the item – if it is not, repeat step 5.

So, which should I choose?
It is entirely your decision but you should consider the following:

  • If you need to label a mix of fabric and non-fabric items, Stikins ® are the more cost-effective choice because you can buy one pack to label everything.
  • If you only need to label fabric items, you can choose to just order Stikins ® or just Trons ® but do remember that Trons ® will always require a bit more time and patience to apply correctly.

To place an order, visit our Stikins ® Product Page or our Trons ® Product Page. You can also find out more about our two name label products by visiting our dedicated information pages: Stikins ® Information & Trons ® Information.

Helpful Extras Available From The Stikins ® & Trons ® Website

Tuesday, September 20th, 2016

As well as placing an order online, you can also visit our website for a whole heap of helpful extras to help you get the most out of your Stikins ® name labels and Trons ® name transfers.

Stikins ® Information & Trons ® Information
These information pages give you a more detailed insight into what our name label products are like and how they work. If you haven’t tried our name labels before, or if you would like to know what makes our labels different from the rest, these pages are a good place to start.

PARENT INFORMATION
Instructions For Use
Each set of name labels and name transfers that we despatch will be packed with its own set of Instructions For Use; however, if you would like to have an extra set to hand for “just in case” purposes, you can download a copy from our Instructions For Use page.

Parent Leaflets
These leaflets provide a little bit of information about us, our name labels, and how to order, along with an order form on the reverse side if you would like to make an order by post. While every order will include a parent leaflet, you can always download a copy if yours goes missing or if you would like to give a copy to friends or family – or even if you want to let your child’s school know about our labels (and our fundraising scheme that allows schools to raise money from sales of name labels).

Parent FAQs
Over the years, we’ve found that a few key questions tend to crop up again and again, so we’ve taken these questions (and their answers) and put them together to form our Frequently Asked Questions page; if you have a simple question or query about our products or placing an order with us, you’re more than likely to find the answer on this page.

Print Examples
Most parents are used to the idea of “sew-in” labels, which feature one line of text and are cut to the size of the name or information that has been requested. Our labels, however, are one size only (Stikins ® measure 30mm wide by 15mm high / Trons ® measure 35mm wide by 15mm high) and it is the font size that decreases to allow all of the requested characters to fit onto each label.

To help you visualise the font size that will be created by different amounts of text, we have created a page of print examples with different lengths of text arranged over our 1 Line or 2 Line layouts.

Blog
Obviously, if you’re reading this blog post you already know that we run a blog! Each week we add new posts full of hints and tips to help you order and use your name labels as effectively and efficiently as possible!

Reviews
For the majority of people ordering online, having the chance to read reviews from existing customers is a really important part of the buying process. You can find out what experiences other people have had and make a more informed decision about the items that you order; you can view general reviews about us by clicking on the red “Reviews” buttons on the left and right hand sides of our site OR find product specific reviews by scrolling to the bottom of our Stikins ® and Trons ® product pages.

Contact Us
Finally, you can also use our site to find ALL of our contact information so if you do need to get in touch with us for any reason at all you can do so in a way that is most convenient for you. Whether you want to send us an email, give us a call, or even send us a letter, all of the details you need are on this page.

FAQ – How Easy Is It To Apply Stikins ® Name Labels & Trons ® Name Transfers?

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016

Very easy! We’ve designed both of our products to be quick and simple for parents to use so that they have more time to get on with the more fun things in life (and don’t have to spend hours sewing in name label after name label).

STIKINS ® NAME LABELS – multipurpose name labels that stick in and stay in
Our Stikins ® are definitely the quickest and simplest of our name label products to apply; these easy to use name labels simply peel off their backing sheet and stick onto the wash-care label of clothing and fabric items or directly onto a whole range of personal items, including water bottles and lunch boxes, shoes and bags, stationery kits and phones, and P.E. equipment.

There’s no sewing or ironing required; all you need to do is make sure that the items you are labelling are clean and dry, stick on your name labels, and then leave the items for 24 hours before washing them for the first time (to ensure that the adhesive has fully and completely set).

We do advise that you wash brand new items of school uniform before you apply your Stikins ® name labels; this is because these items are often treated with chemicals to preserve them during storage and despatch and they may also have traces of excess dye in them, which can prevent your name labels from adhering directly onto the wash-care label correctly.

TRONS ® NAME TRANSFERS – superb iron-on labels that create a completely permanent name label on any fabric item
Our Trons ® name transfers do take a little longer (and require a little more care) to apply properly BUT they will create a completely permanent name label (that won’t start to peel up or fall off like traditional iron-on name labels often do).

Our name transfers differ from traditional iron-on name labels because they work in the same way as transfers used to add designs onto T-shirts; where traditional iron-on name labels are made up of several layers and sit on TOP of the item you want to label, our name transfers are made of one ultra-thin layer that fuses and bonds with the fabric of your items to become a permanent part of those items.

Trons ® have a simple six-step process for application:

  1. Make sure your item is clean and dry, and turn it inside out. Set your iron to its maximum heat setting and make sure you have a suitable hard, flat surface to work on (do not use an ironing board).
  2. Cut or tear one of the silicon sheets provided into pieces; each piece should be bigger than the labels and should only be used once.
  3. Line your item up to the edge of the surface you are working on and place a label face up on top of your item, making sure that the label is sitting at the very edge of the surface.
  4. Put a piece of your silicon paper on top of the label, ensuring that the silicon is placed with the shiny side facing downwards.
  5. Iron the silicon paper with the tip of your iron; press down firmly and move the iron from side to side. Iron for 25 seconds and do NOT use steam.
  6. Remove the silicon paper while it is still hot. Allow your transfer to cool and check if it has bonded successfully with the material of your item. If not, repeat step 5.

Please note: while older children may be allowed to apply their own Stikins ® without supervision, we do NOT advise allowing your children to apply their own Trons ®; Trons ® should only be applied by an adult and should be applied with both care and patience!

Remember, if you have any concerns about applying your labels, don’t panic! Each pack of name labels and name transfers that we despatch comes packed with an easy to follow set of Instructions For Use to help guide you through the process.

You can download a copy of our Stikins ® Instructions For Use and/or our Trons ® Instructions For Use from our craftily named “Instructions For Use” page on our website; if you have any questions about how to apply your name labels or any other questions about our name label products, please contact our Customer Service Team who will be happy to help answer your queries.

Label Planet’s Got Brand New (Stikins ®) Bags – And They’re Absolutely Fabulous!

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

This summer, we’ve added an extra burst of colour to orders of Stikins ® name labels by giving our Stikins ® bags a bit of a makeover.

As regular customers will know, each pack of Stikins ® that we despatch arrives individually packed in its own Stikins ® bag, which has our Instructions For Use printed on the back – so you can store your labels safely and securely in the knowledge that everything you need is kept together in one safe place.

Our brand new bags are just the same with TWO brilliant exceptions; firstly, we’ve added a handy box so you can also add your school’s Fundraising Number to your Stikins ® stash so you’ve got it to hand the next time you need to order!

Secondly (and perhaps more obviously), we’ve also made them purple!

We wanted to make our bags a bit more fun and exciting (to match our rather snazzy envelopes) and give our customers a really easy reminder that they’ve ordered Stikins ® from Label Planet!

These bags are also a really easy way to store any leftover Stikins ® for future use; we recommend keeping your spare Stikins ® in a dry place, out of direct sunlight, at room temperature to ensure they retain their original quality.

To place an order (and take a look at our brilliant new bags!), simply visit our Stikins ® product page to get started!

FAQ – How Do I Apply My Name Labels?!

Thursday, January 14th, 2016

While we’ve tried to make our name labels as simple and straightforward as possible to use, it’s always nice to have some instructions to hand to make sure you’ve done everything absolutely right.

We’ve written step by step guides for both our Stikins ® name labels and our Trons ® name transfers; a copy of these instructions is sent out with each pack and they are also available to view or download on our website.

Of course, every little extra helps, so here’s both sets of Instructions For Use in this very blog post, right here!

Instructions For Use: STIKINS ® name labels

  1. Ensure the item is completely dry.
  2. Carefully peel the label from the backing paper, trying to avoid touching the adhesive.
  3. Apply the label onto the wash-care label of the item (clothing/fabric items) or directly onto the item itself.
  4. Using your thumb, smooth the label down for a few seconds to ensure that the adhesive fully bonds with the material.

Instructions For Use: TRONS ® name transfers

  1. Use a hard flat surface (not an ironing board). Turn the clothes inside out. Set the iron to the maximum heat setting.
  2. Cut or tear the silicon sheet. Each piece must be bigger than the labels. Each piece can only be used once.
  3. Put the garment over the edge of the surface. Put a label text up on the very edge of the surface.
  4. Put a piece of silicon paper on top of the label. The silicon must be shiny side down. The silicon should only be used once.
  5. Iron the silicon paper with the tip of the iron but do not use steam. Press down and move the iron from side to side. Iron for 25 seconds.
  6. Remove the silicon paper while still hot. Allow it to cool and check the label is bonded. If the label is not bonded then repeat step 5.

Top Tips For Long-Lasting (Name) Labels

– After applying Stikins ®, leave the item for 24 hours before washing to allow the adhesive to fully strengthen and set. Do not be tempted to test the adhesive by peeling up a corner of the label after washing.

– Apply your labels to items that have been washed at least ONCE before application; some items (especially clothing) may have traces of dust, excess dye, or preservative coatings that can interfere with the adhesive on Stikins ®and with the bonding process when you apply Trons ®.

– Don’t iron directly over your labels once they have been applied; the Stikins ®are made of vinyl that will melt if it is touched by an iron, and the print on your Trons ® transfers may gradually disintegrate over time if you iron directly over the print.

– Remember that Stikins ® MUST be applied onto the wash care label of garments and Trons ® MUST NOT be applied onto the wash care label of items.

– Apply Stikins ® to the side or beneath the tongue of shoes; they must not be applied directly beneath the heel as the constant friction between the label and foot will cause the print to rapidly disintegrate until it is worn away completely.

FAQ – What’s Included In My Order?

Monday, February 2nd, 2015

We want to make sure that all of our customers get the very best out of their name labels, which is why we send out a few extras with each order to make your labels as quick and easy to use as possible.

So what’s included in your order?

  • Letter/Receipt
The covering letter contains the details of your order including: a Customer Reference Number (which you can quote if you need to contact us with any queries about your order or to repeat a previous order), the contents of your order (the packs you ordered and the text requested for each one), and the cost of your order (including the VAT and total amount paid).
  • A5 Information Leaflet
Our information leaflet contains some general information about our STIKINS ® name labels and our TRONS ® name transfers. We’ve also included a list of the ways you can order STIKINS ® and TRONS ®, with the back of the leaflet providing an order form that can be used to order more name labels by post.
  • STIKINS ® Name Labels
Each set of name labels is sent in its own transparent bag, which is printed with an easy to follow set of instructions for use. This means that if you don’t use all your STIKINS ® at once, you can store them safely in the bag until you need them (and the instructions) again.
  • TRONS ® Name Transfers
Our TRONS ® name transfers are also sent in transparent bags; each bag contains your TRONS ® name transfers, two sheets of silicon per sheet of name transfers, and a step by step guide to applying your TRONS ®. Like the STIKINS ® packs, this means that you can safely store your TRONS ® for future use, along with those all-important instructions.

Each set of STIKINS ® and TRONS ® is sent in its own bag to ensure that there’ll be no mix ups between the sets or any confusion between your STIKINS ® and your TRONS ®.

Of course, you might have a question that isn’t answered by the information included with your order. If this is the case, take a look through our information pages on our website or get in touch with us and we’ll do our best to answer any query that you might have.

  2. Carefully peel one of your STIKINS ® from the backing paper, taking care not to touch the adhesive too much.
  3. Apply the label to your item – if you are labelling clothing, you should apply the label to the wash care or garment label of the item.
  4. Use your thumb to smooth down the label for a few seconds to make sure the adhesive will bond fully with the item.
  5. Do not wash the item for at least 24 hours, while the adhesive continues to strengthen.

  5. Iron the silicon paper with the tip of the iron; press down firmly and move the iron from side to side for 25 seconds. Do NOT use steam.

Brand New TRONS ® Name Transfers Instructions Now Available

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Following an incredible response to the launch of our newest name label product and a whole heap of fantastic feedback from our marvellous customers, we’ve given the Instructions For Use for our TRONS ® Name Transfers a bit of an update – as well as bit of a makeover. All orders that include TRONS ® name transfers (either as a standalone product or in one of our combination packs) will now include our brand new instructions sheet, which is also available to view or download from our website.

For our new set of Instructions For Use, we’ve put together a set of SIX easy to follow steps, each of which comes with a simple outline of what to do at each step and a helpful image to make it even easier to follow.

Hopefully, the new instructions will come in handy for all of our customers, from those who jumped on board with our TRONS ® from the very beginning to those who are giving name transfers a go for the very first time.

TRONS ®: New Instructions For Use

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

We’d like to thank all of our TRONS ® name transfer customers who have taken the time to give us some excellent feedback about our brand new product.

We weren’t sure how our customers would react to such a different product but we’ve had an absolutely fabulous response.

We combined the feedback we’ve received from customers with our own ongoing research to create an updated set of Instructions For Use that make the application process even easier to follow.

TRONS ® Instructions For Use:
TRONS ® are name transfers and can be used to identify any garment, including socks. TRONS ® are extremely thin and transfer a name permanently to all fabrics by bonding and fusing.

Please follow these simple instructions for perfect results:
Step 1…Place the garment on a hard, flat surface (e.g. kitchen worktop). Remove a transfer from the backing sheet and position it on the garment face up.
Step 2…Cover the transfer with the re-usable TRONS ® silicon paper sheet provided. Cut the sheet into 4 and use each piece up to 5 times, shiny side down.
Step 3…Using a hot dry iron, heated to the maximum temperature for the garment, press hard for 20 to 30 seconds. Move the iron in small circles.
Step 4…Carefully peel off the silicon paper sheet while still hot. Once cool check that the label cannot be removed, repeat step 3 if necessary.

lron directly onto fabric not onto labels. Do not use steam. Do not use an ironing board. Practise on some scrap cloth first. Once applied avoid ironing TRONS ® directly.

We send a copy of these instructions out with every single set and they can also be found on our website here.
