FAQ – Can I Split A Pack Between Two (Or Three Or Four Or More) Names?

The Short Answer:
No; all of the labels within a single pack must be printed with the same text.

The Long(er) Answer:
No BUT you can get a bit creative with the text that you request so that you can SHARE a pack between two (or more) people.

Here are the most popular ways that our customers create packs of name labels that can be shared:

USE YOUR FAMILY SURNAME & SHARE
If you enter just your family surname, you can use your name labels for ANY member of your family, in the knowledge that any lost items will be returned to the right family (if not with the right individual).

You can choose to enter just your surname (select “Name on one line”) or you might want to combine this with a piece of contact information such as a phone number (enter your surname on one line and your phone number on the other line) or perhaps add a friendly message (e.g. “Please Return To”, “Property Of”, or “This Belongs To/The Surname Family”).

USE YOUR FAMILY SURNAME + INITIALS & SHARE
If your children share an initial, you could add this initial to help make your labels slightly more personal than adding a surname only AND to help avoid mix ups if your child shares their surname with another child in their class.

USE YOUR FAMILY SURNAME + A BLANK SPACE & SHARE
You could also choose to enter your surname on the bottom line and enter a blank space on the top line to leave yourself room to write in the name that you need a label for. This way you can decide exactly how many labels within a pack are used for each child. Make sure you use a suitable pen (for example, a laundry pen) so that whatever you write onto your labels will stay in place even after repeat trips through the washing machine.

ENTER TWO NAMES/INITIALS & CUT
There are a few ways to create individual name labels from a single pack by cutting your labels in half or by cutting off one end. For example, you could enter one full name on the top line and one full name on the bottom line and then cut your labels in two OR you could enter “name/initial 1” followed by “surname” followed by “name/initial 2” onto one line and then cut off one of the ends to create individual name labels.

ENTER ALL OF YOUR NAMES & SHARE
If you absolutely want your children’s names to be on their labels and you don’t fancy cutting your labels apart, you can always opt for the simple option of adding all of the names onto your labels. Usually, our customers will do this by adding “Name 1 or Name 2” or “Name 1 & Name 2” to the top line and the surname to the bottom line; if you need to add multiple first names (especially if some or all of them are quite long), you may need to split the first names over the two lines rather than adding them all to the top line.

FAQ – Do I Have To Use All Of My Name Labels At Once Or Can I Store Some For Another Time?

You can use as many of your name labels as you like when they arrive and then store the rest away for future use; simply make sure that you store them somewhere safe and secure to allow them to retain their original quality so they’re ready to go when you need them again!

We recommend keeping your Stikins ® name labels and/or Trons ® name transfers in their original packaging and storing them somewhere that is dry, out of direct sunlight, and somewhere with a steady “room” temperature.

Our Stikins ® are at their best for the first two years, while our Trons ® are fine for the first five years; if you try to apply these products after this time OR don’t store them in appropriate conditions, they may not adhere or transfer properly when you come to use them, which means they may start to peel up or fall off entirely.

Many of our customers prefer to buy a larger pack (or packs) so that they can keep a few labels on hand for “emergencies” or as a steady supply that they can dip into as and when they need to – for example, to label new items of uniform (when previous items have been outgrown) or new equipment (that is required for a new topic or subject).

Buying a larger pack that you can keep somewhere safe for later on is also the most cost effective option; our larger packs have a better cost per label than the smaller packs, so buying more name labels and then using them as and when you need to will help you make your money go that extra bit further, compared to buying smaller packs every time you run out.

FAQ – How Easy Is It To Apply Stikins ® Name Labels & Trons ® Name Transfers?

Very easy! We’ve designed both of our products to be quick and simple for parents to use so that they have more time to get on with the more fun things in life (and don’t have to spend hours sewing in name label after name label).

STIKINS ® NAME LABELS – multipurpose name labels that stick in and stay in
Our Stikins ® are definitely the quickest and simplest of our name label products to apply; these easy to use name labels simply peel off their backing sheet and stick onto the wash-care label of clothing and fabric items or directly onto a whole range of personal items, including water bottles and lunch boxes, shoes and bags, stationery kits and phones, and P.E. equipment.

There’s no sewing or ironing required; all you need to do is make sure that the items you are labelling are clean and dry, stick on your name labels, and then leave the items for 24 hours before washing them for the first time (to ensure that the adhesive has fully and completely set).

We do advise that you wash brand new items of school uniform before you apply your Stikins ® name labels; this is because these items are often treated with chemicals to preserve them during storage and despatch and they may also have traces of excess dye in them, which can prevent your name labels from adhering directly onto the wash-care label correctly.

TRONS ® NAME TRANSFERS – superb iron-on labels that create a completely permanent name label on any fabric item
Our Trons ® name transfers do take a little longer (and require a little more care) to apply properly BUT they will create a completely permanent name label (that won’t start to peel up or fall off like traditional iron-on name labels often do).

Our name transfers differ from traditional iron-on name labels because they work in the same way as transfers used to add designs onto T-shirts; where traditional iron-on name labels are made up of several layers and sit on TOP of the item you want to label, our name transfers are made of one ultra-thin layer that fuses and bonds with the fabric of your items to become a permanent part of those items.

Trons ® have a simple six-step process for application:

  1. Make sure your item is clean and dry, and turn it inside out. Set your iron to its maximum heat setting and make sure you have a suitable hard, flat surface to work on (do not use an ironing board).
  2. Cut or tear one of the silicon sheets provided into pieces; each piece should be bigger than the labels and should only be used once.
  3. Line your item up to the edge of the surface you are working on and place a label face up on top of your item, making sure that the label is sitting at the very edge of the surface.
  4. Put a piece of your silicon paper on top of the label, ensuring that the silicon is placed with the shiny side facing downwards.
  5. Iron the silicon paper with the tip of your iron; press down firmly and move the iron from side to side. Iron for 25 seconds and do NOT use steam.
  6. Remove the silicon paper while it is still hot. Allow your transfer to cool and check if it has bonded successfully with the material of your item. If not, repeat step 5.

Please note: while older children may be allowed to apply their own Stikins ® without supervision, we do NOT advise allowing your children to apply their own Trons ®; Trons ® should only be applied by an adult and should be applied with both care and patience!

FAQ – How Long Will It Take For My Name Labels To Arrive?

At Label Planet, we try to make sure that all of our customers receive their name labels as quickly as possible, so you can get on with enjoying your summer without waiting around or spending time trying to find out why your order hasn’t arrived yet.

DESPATCH:
Every order we receive by 3pm, Monday to Friday, will be made and despatched same day, while orders placed after 3pm or over the weekend will be made and despatched on the next working day.

DELIVERY:
All orders are despatched via Royal Mail’s first class service as standard; 93% of items sent via this service will arrive on the next (working) day, with the rest taking a day or two extra.

If you want to make sure that your labels absolutely positively arrive in plenty of time, you can opt to upgrade to a guaranteed next (working) day service, which will guarantee that your name labels arrive by 1pm the next working day (shipping cost: £5.75).

Please note that this option is not available online so you will need to place your order by phone to request next day delivery; you should also note that this service requires a signature as proof of delivery so you will need to provide a delivery address where you (or someone else) will be available to sign for your order.

FAQ – What Text Should I Put On My Name Labels?

Name labels are a personalised product so it’s entirely up to you what text you request when you order BUT we do have a few handy tips to help you make sure your name labels are useful as possible.

The first thing to bear in mind is that our name labels are only made to ONE size; our Stikins ® name labels measure 30mm wide by 15mm high, while our Trons ® name transfers measure 35mm wide by 15mm high.

The size of our labels DOES NOT adjust to fit in the number of characters you have requested – instead our system will count up the number of characters you have requested and select the largest possible font size that will allow all of those characters to fit onto each label.

This means that you need to keep your text short and sweet!

Most customers choose to add a name only to their labels; you can choose to add a first name, nickname, or surname only, or you may wish to include a full name (along with middle names and/or nicknames if you so choose), or something in between (for example, an initial and a surname).

We advise that you use the default layout (2 lines) and enter the first name (or names) onto the top line and the surname onto the bottom line. If you are requesting a name with both a short first name and a short surname, are requesting one name only, or are requesting an initial and a surname, you may want to switch to the 1 line layout to increase the font size that you receive.

You may also wish to include an additional piece of information; popular examples include:

  • A piece of contact information
    Most people choose to add a phone number so that they can be contacted if an item is found. Some people may choose an email address or home address BUT we would advise against this unless you have a very short email address or you choose a shortened version of your home address. We would also advise against using more than one piece of contact information.
  • Medical/allergy information
    If your child has a medical condition or an allergy, adding this information to their name labels creates an additional medical alert that can be used to keep their medical equipment and/or food safe or to alert people to their condition if an emergency should arise.
  • A personalised message
    For example: “Please Return To”, “Property Of”, or “This Belongs To”.
  • A year, class, or form name
    This can make it easier for your child’s belongings to be returned to them quickly within the school environment.

If you want to include a name AND an additional piece of information on your name labels, we recommend adding one item to the top line and one item to the bottom line to ensure that your font remains at a clear and legible size.

FAQ – Can I Split A Pack Of Name Labels Between Two Names?

Unfortunately, no.
Our print system is fully automated, which means that whatever text is printed onto one label within a pack is printed onto ALL of the labels within that pack – so you cannot split a pack between different names.

HOWEVER, we are more than happy for customers to get a bit creative with the text they request, so that they WILL be able to share a pack between two or more members of their family.

In fact, we’ve even got a few pointers to get you started!

  • Enter A Surname Only
    If you simply enter your surname, the labels can be shared by ALL members of your family. Customers who choose this option often like to add “Family Surname” (or “Surname Family”) to the top line and then add a contact phone number to the bottom line.
  • Enter A Surname & An Initial Only
    Obviously, this only works if your children share the same initial but this is a quick and easy way to make your name labels more personal than just entering the surname only.
  • Enter A Surname Only & Request A Blank Line
    As long as you use a suitable pen (such as a laundry pen) you can choose to write on your name labels; if you add a blank space to the top line and add your surname to the bottom line, you will receive a set of name labels that you can split in any way you like simply by writing in the name that you need a name label for.
  • Enter One Name On The Top Line And One Name On The Bottom Line
    By entering a full name on each of the two lines, you can then cut your labels in half to create individual labels for two names. You will need to take care when cutting the labels and we recommend avoiding this option if you need to include long names (e.g. double-barrelled surnames), as this will significantly reduce the font size that is used to print your labels.
  • Enter Initials & Surname Onto One Line
    If you enter the first initial (or short name) followed by a surname followed by the second initial (or short name), you can create individual labels by cutting off one of the initials (or names).
  • Enter All Of The Names & Share!
    Some of our customers choose to enter both first names on the top line (e.g. “Name 1 or Name 2” or “Name 1 & Name 2”) and the surname on the bottom line, so that lost items can be returned to the right family (albeit maybe not with the right child!).

FAQ – Do You Have Any Name Label Discounts Or Offers Running Over The Summer?

With summer in full swing, you might be looking at your list of Back To School essential (and not so essential) purchases and wondering exactly how much this year’s list is going to cost you – which means you may well be on the lookout for discounts and offers to help you out.

At Label Planet, we aren’t running any offers or vouchers this summer BUT we are happy to announce that we are continuing our multi-pack discount, which means that ANY order of 4 (or more) packs of labels will automatically qualify for a 10% discount.

FAQ – How Do I Request BLANK Labels?

Some of our customers want to be able to order blank labels (or to leave one of the lines blank) so that they can write in a particular name or additional information at a later date.

Requesting blank labels or a blank line on your labels is a simple way to create the exact labels you need; our system can only print one set of text per pack of name labels, so whatever is printed onto ONE of the labels in a pack is printed onto ALL of the labels in that pack – BUT if you want to be able to make name labels for a number of individuals, you want different amounts for each person, you want to put different information onto each label, or if you have information that you can only add at a later date, requesting blank labels means you can write out as many labels as you need for each name (or purpose).

We are more than happy for customers to request blank (or partially blank) labels; simply follow the guidelines below:

  • Ordering By Post: leave the relevant fields blank on your order form
  • Ordering By Phone: let us know that you want blank labels or a blank line
  • Ordering Online: enter a blank space into the relevant text fields (“Enter Line 1” and/or “Enter Line 2”) using the space bar on your keyboard
    [You can also add a note to your order to explain that you want a particular line or the whole label leaving blank, by leaving a note in the “Additional Information” box as you checkout.]

Please Note:

  • If you do intend to write on your labels, you will need to use a laundry pen (or similar) to make sure that the ink won’t be washed away when you put your clothes in the washing machine or wash personal items (such as water bottles and lunch boxes).
  • Our labels are made using specialist printers, software, and ink, which means you CANNOT print these labels yourself, using the printer you have at home.
  • We do not offer any discount for requesting blank, rather than printed, labels.

FAQ – How Do I Order Name Labels From Label Planet?

You can order in a number of ways, so it’s completely up to you to choose the option that is most convenient for you; we can accept orders via our website, over the phone, by post, or even by email.

To Place An Order Online:

  1. Visit our website at stikins.co.uk and click on “Buy Stikins ®” to start your order with a pack of Stikins ® name labels or click on “Buy Trons ®” to start with a pack of Trons ® iron-on name transfers.
  2. Select the pack you want to buy and enter the text you require as follows:
    Select if you want your text on one line or on two lines
    (We recommend using two lines unless you are entering a single name (e.g. just a surname) or a very short full name. Our name labels are made to one size only and will not expand to incorporate a larger number of characters; instead, our system will count up the number of characters you have requested and will reduce the font size until it reaches a size that will allow all of those characters to fit on your labels).
    Enter the text you want into the boxes provided (“Enter Line 1” and/or “Enter Line 2”)
    (To request blank labels or to leave one line blank, simply enter a blank space in the relevant box using the space bar on your keyboard).
    Select the pack size you want
    Enter your school fundraising number
    (Registered schools and groups earn up to 30% commission on orders where their fundraising number is quoted; this number may already be filled in if you have followed a link from the school or group website. If you do not know the code for your child’s school or group (or if they are even registered), enter the name of the school or group in the “Additional Information” box as you checkout and we will check/add this for you).
    Click “Add to basket” to add that pack to your basket!
  1. From the shopping basket, you can add another pack (click on “Enter More Names”, or on the “Buy Stikins ®” or “Buy Trons ®” buttons), request multiple packs with the details you have already entered (type the number you require into the “Quantity” box and click “Update Totals”), or remove a pack you have already entered (check the “Select” box and click “Delete”).
    Once you are happy with the packs you have added to your basket (and you’ve taken a moment to double check the details), click on the “Checkout” button to enter your billing/shipping information and to pay for your order.
  1. Enter your address and contact information. If you wish to enter a separate delivery address, enter your billing address first and then check the “shipping address” box to add your different delivery address.
    We will only use your contact information for the purpose of processing your order and keeping you up to date with its progress; from time to time we do send promotional emails to let our customers know about any new products and/or offers that are available – to request that we do NOT send you any promotional emails, simply uncheck the “Allow Promotional Emails” box.
    If you have any extra queries or requirements, you can use the “Additional Information” box to add a note to your order, which our customer service team will do their best to assist with.
  1. Payment for online orders can be made with either a credit or debit card or with a PayPal account.

To Place An Order By Phone:

  1. Contact our customer service team on 01270 668076 (opening hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm).
  2. Let us know the packs you would like to order and the text you want on each.
  3. Let us know your delivery address and give us your child’s school or group fundraising number (if you have one).
  4. Payment for phone orders can be made with either a credit card or debit card.
    Please note, we do not accept payment by American Express.

To Place An Order By Post:

  1. Postal orders can be made using the Order Form on the back of our Parent Leaflets; you may have one of these if you have ordered from us in the past or if you have been given one by a school or group – if you haven’t got one (or if the one you did have has gone missing), you can download a copy to print off from our website here: Parent Leaflets.
    Of course, you can also simply send us a letter, providing the details of what you want to order along with your delivery details!
  1. Enter the text you want in the boxes provided (“Line 1” and “Line 2”), enter the quantity you need, and the code for the pack size you want to order, then add your delivery information in the two boxes provided (“Name” and “Address & Postcode”). You can also use the “Price” boxes to work out the total for your order.
  2. Payment for postal orders must be made by cheque; please make your cheque payable to “Label Planet Ltd”.

To Place An Order By Email: 
We do allow some customers to order by email if they are bulk ordering on behalf of a group or organisation (for example, if you are ordering on behalf of a school or a residential care or nursing home).

  1. Send us an email with the details of the items you would like to order, along with your delivery details.
  2. Please send the names to be printed in an Excel spreadsheet, with the first names in the first column and the surnames in the second column (or, for care facilities, you may wish to enter the names in the first column and each resident’s room number in the second column).
  3. We will issue you with a Pro-Forma Invoice, against which payment can be made by cheque, debit or credit card, or BACS transfer.
    Please note that we operate on a “payment with order” system and do not offer any credit accounts.
