Stikins Name Tags Presents: Why Do We Celebrate Easter With A Bunny?!

The origins of the Easter Bunny are something of a mystery, although there are a number of theories.

  • A GERMAN JUDGE. In German folklore, the “Osterhase” (Easter Hare) would judge the behaviour of children and reward those who had been good with gifts of Easter eggs.
  • A FERTILITY SYMBOL. Rabbits and hares are traditional symbols of fertility and of spring as a time of new life. They give birth to multiple litters each year, with each litter made up of an average of 4-6 young.
  • THE GODDESS OSTRE. According to some scholars, the Anglo-Saxons worshipped Eostre, a goddess of fertility and spring. The hare was her sacred animal. In some stories, Eostre had a pet bird that she transformed into a hare with the ability to lay coloured eggs.
  • CHRISTIAN ICONOGRAPHY. Some ancient cultures believed that hares were hermaphrodites and could self-fertilise. This created a Christian association with virgin births and the Virgin Mary. In other ancient traditions, rabbits were associated with death and rebirth, creating a connection with the resurrection. Many sacred sites across the world (including Christian churches) feature a symbol known as the “three hares”. In it, three hares (or rabbits) chase each other in a circle. While the original meaning has been lost, the symbol has come to be associated with the Holy Trinity.

Stikins Name Tags Presents: Facts About Easter Alternatives!

While we are familiar with the Easter Bunny as the traditional Easter gift-bringer, there are many alternative traditions including:

THE EASTER BILBY

Also known as rabbit-bandicoots, bilbies are desert-dwelling marsupials native (and unique) to Australia. They have blue-grey and white silky coats, pink pointed snouts, large ears, and black tails with a pure white tip. They are excellent burrowers and are omnivores – eating seeds, spiders, insects, bulbs, fruit, fungi, and other small creatures.

Bilbies were were once found across approximately 70% of Australia. They are now completely extinct in a number of states and have Vulnerable or Endagered status elsewhere. This decline is due to an extensive loss of habitat, predation from species such as foxes and feral cats, and competition for food with non-native species like cattle and sheep – and rabbits.

Rabbits are considered something of a pest in Australia – hence the introduction of the Easter Bilby. Many companies and organisations now use Easter as an opportunity to raise awareness of the bilby’s vulnerable status.

THE EASTER BELLS

In France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, church bells are silenced in the days before Easter as a sign of mourning. This tradition created the story of the Easter Bells, which says they leave their steeples to visit the Vatican. The bells return on Easter morning with coloured eggs and chocolates in the shape of eggs and rabbits.

OTHER EASTER ANIMALS

In other parts of Europe, there are a number of local alternatives for the Easter Bunny including: the Easter Fox, the Easter Cuckoo, the Easter Chick, the Easter Rooster, and the Easter Stork.

Order Extra Stikins Name Tags This Easter And Get Organised For The Summer Term

The Easter break is the perfect time to take stock of your children’s school uniform and equipment before the summer term begins.

Our name tags are the perfect school labels because you can use one pack of sticky name tags to label school uniform AND all of the essential extras that your children absolutely have to have with them at school. You simply peel each name tag off its backing sheet and then apply it onto the wash care label (of clothing and fabric items) or directly onto the item (personal items only; in shoes, you should apply your name tags onto the side wall or beneath the tongue – and not beneath the heel).

We supply our name tags in four pack sizes (of 30, 60, 90, or 120 name tags) and you can order online, by phone, or by post. We make and despatch name tags every day (Monday to Friday, up to 3pm) with orders being sent via Royal Mail’s first class service as standard (although you can upgrade to a guaranteed next day delivery option if you need to make absolutely sure that your name tags arrive as quickly as possible).

Happy Easter From Stikins Name Tags

We will be taking a short break for Easter. We will re-open on Monday 9th April at 9am.

Any orders placed between now and then will be printed and posted when we return on Monday. If you have any questions or queries in the meantime, you can leave us a message by emailing info@labelplanet.co.uk. We’ll do our best to reply as quickly as we can when we return in April.

Happy Chinese New Year From Stikins ® Name Labels! It’s The #YearOfTheDog!

Friday, February 16th, 2018

Happy New Year From The Stikins ® Name Labels Team!

(Especially HARVEY the Stikins Dog who feels that, really, every year should be the year of the dog!)

Chinese New Year Of The Dog Name LabelsAlso known as Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year falls between mid-January and mid-February based on the Chinese lunisolar calendar. A new month starts at the new moon and the month containing the winter solstice is considered to be the 11th month of the Chinese year – so the new year (usually) begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice.

The current Chinese year begins today and ends on the 4th February 2019.

Chinese New Year traditions include a new year’s eve reunion meal for families, exchanging gifts (especially money in red envelopes to signify good wishes and luck for the new year), “spring” cleaning (to sweep away bad luck from the preceding year before the new year and, hopefully, good luck arrives), red decorations (a lucky colour that symbolises wealth, happiness, and prosperity and wards against evil spirits), and plenty of fireworks – in fact, more fireworks are set off for the Chinese New Year than at any other time of the year.

Celebrations last until the full moon when a Lantern Festival is held to indicate the end of the Spring Festival.

The Chinese calendar also follows a 60 year cycle, which contains a repeating 10 year cycle (of “Heavenly Stems”) associated with the 5 elements in alternating yin and yang forms and a repeating 12 year cycle (of “Earthly Stems”) associated with the 12 signs of the zodiac.

This year is the YEAR OF THE DOG and more specifically (as a year ending in an 8) it is the year of the YANG EARTH DOG.

These signs are believed to influence the events and personalities of children born in that year. The dog is an auspicious animal that indicates the coming of fortune and symbolises loyalty and honesty. People born in the year of the Dog are said to be brave, honest, sincere, friendly, loyal, smart, straightforward, reliable, and responsible (although they may also be self-righteous, cold, stubborn, irritable, critical, and unskilled at social activities). Those born in an Earth Dog year will also have qualities associated with the Earth element and will be patient, thoughtful, practical, hardworking, nurturing, and ambitious.

Why Not Try Some New Name Labels For A New Year?!

Stikins ® name labels are a thoroughly modern name labelling solution that aims to make the process of labelling school uniform and equipment as quick and easy as possible. Instead of spending hours sewing in name tapes or ironing on iron-on labels, our sticky name labels simply stick on and stay on – and you can use one pack to label clothing and fabric items (apply your name labels onto the wash-care label only), bags and shoes (avoid applying name labels beneath the heel in shoes to protect the print), lunch boxes and water bottles, books and stationery, and anything else that you’d like to keep safe.

We sell four different pack sizes (of 30, 60, 90, or 120 name labels) and you can request whatever information you want to be printed on your name labels. While most people opt for a first name and surname, you can also add contact information, medical/allergy information, or friendly messages such as “Please Return To” or “I Belong To”.

Stick on name labels are a really brilliant way to get things labelled up safely and securely and they’re also a great way to get stuff organised – whether it’s your children’s school uniform and equipment, your own belongings, or even the various supplies that you’ve bought for your dog!

We hope you had a brilliant time celebrating the new year with friends and family (and we hope that one or two of you have made a New Year’s Resolution to buy more name tags in 2018!).

Are you waiting for your name tags?

We’re busy working our way through all of the orders we received for our stick on name tags over the Christmas break and we hope to be all caught by today or tomorrow. If you haven’t received anything by the end of the week, please contact our Customer Service Team so we can assist you further.

If you ordered name tags for school or clothing before Christmas but didn’t receive a despatch confirmation email then your order will be in our “To Do” pile; we’re aiming to meet our usual despatch targets of despatching all orders same or next day – and hopefully all of our Christmas name tags AND new orders will be made and posted out by the end of play tomorrow.

Find out more about our name tags today!

If you have any questions or queries about Stikins ® name tags or you need some assistance placing an order (or tracking an order you placed before Christmas), please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Customer Service Team, we are available to help Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

Merry Christmas from Stikins Name Labels

It is finally December, which means that the Christmas Countdown is officially ON! It also means that if you’ve been thinking about ordering some Christmas name labels to get yourself organised over the holidays, then NOW is the time to buy!

Prepare for the New Year with Stikins ® Name Labels

Christmas is a great time of year to take stock of how much stuff has made it to school and back again safely (and how much hasn’t) and to see what may need labelling in the new year. Maybe you need school uniform labels for someone who’s grown a bit (or a lot) over the last few months, or perhaps you need name labels for equipment that’s needed for a new class or project starting in January, or perhaps you just need a few extra stick on name labels to help keep a few Christmas presents safe when they inevitably get taken into school for an (un)official show and tell.

If you’ve got a child (or any other family members) with a bit of a reputation for losing things, a pack of Stikins ® name labels might just be the perfect little extra something for their stocking this year.

It’s also a great time to order school name labels on behalf of family and friends – especially those living abroad who will be visiting (or visited) over the holidays.

If you want to order a pack (or two or three or four – or more!) of sticky name labels for delivery BEFORE Christmas – don’t worry! – there’s still plenty of time to make sure that your stick on labels arrive before the big day.

Swift & Speedy Despatch of Seasonal School Name Labels

We print, pack, and post our name labels every day, Monday to Friday, up to 3pm – which means that ALL orders received before 3pm are sent out SAME day, while orders received after 3pm (or over the weekend) are sent out on the NEXT working day.

We send all of our orders via Royal Mail’s first class service as standard (free of charge) and you can also upgrade to a next day delivery service (shipping: £5.75) or a Saturday delivery service (shipping: £8.75) to make sure that your name stickers arrive safe and sound as soon as possible.

To upgrade to our special delivery options, please give us a call on 01270 668076; this allows us to ensure that your order will DEFINITELY be despatched same day for next day delivery.

DELIVERY DEADLINES TO AVOID OVER THE FESTIVE PERIOD

If you do want to order name labels for clothes and other items – and you need them to arrive BEFORE Christmas – then we strongly recommend upgrading to our next day delivery service.

We also recommend ordering as soon as possible to avoid disappointment – especially if you are relying on our standard delivery service; Royal Mail do NOT guarantee that first class items will be delivered next day and this service can experience delays as we get closer to Christmas.

If you do find that ordering name labels has slipped your mind, these are the very last posting dates for orders of Stikins ® name labels:

Delivery to Europe: last posting dates vary by country with some being as early as the 6th December and others being as late as 13th-15th December; you can get in touch with us to find out the last posting date for your intended shipping destination BUT we strongly recommend ordering THIS WEEK to give your name labels plenty of time to arrive.

Delivery to the Republic Of Ireland: we despatch orders via Royal Mail’s International Standard service, which means the last posting date is Friday 15th December.

This service may be delayed so we recommend ordering as early as possible for pre-Christmas delivery.

Standard Delivery to the UK: Royal Mail’s First Class service has a last posting date of Wednesday 20th December.

This service may be delayed so we recommend ordering as early as possible for pre-Christmas delivery OR upgrading to a special delivery service.

Special Delivery to the UK: special delivery is via Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Guaranteed service, which has a last posting date of Thursday 21st December.

If you find yourself leaving things to the VERY last minute this year, we can despatch name labels on Friday 22nd December for delivery before Christmas, providing you upgrade to the Royal Mail’s Saturday Delivery Guaranteed service.

Remember, if you want to upgrade to one of our special delivery options at ANY time during December, you will need to call our Customer Service Team to do so – this allows us to make sure that your sticky name labels are made and despatched on the same day you order.

Back to School Stikins Name Labels

It’s back-to-school time – Have you ordered your name labels?

Yes, September is here and the summer is fast falling away into autumn but we’re still busy printing and packing name labels for those emergency back-to-school orders. Don’t worry if you’ve run out of labels or you’ve forgotten to buy new name labels in the rush of getting ready for the new school term – all orders we receive by 3pm will be despatched same day, while orders received after 3pm or over the weekend will be despatched on the next working day. If you need your order urgently, simply give us a call and you can upgrade your order to a guaranteed next day delivery option (this service costs £5.75 and our Customer Service Team is available 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday).

Names inspired by the months of the year…

Seeing as it’s the first day of a brand new month, we thought we’d take a look at a few names that are associated with the months of the year, some of which have actually been requested for name labels in recent years…

  • While “January” itself is a great name, you could also opt for Janus (the Roman God of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and endings) or Juno (the Roman Goddess of marriage, women, and Rome, as well as queen of the gods).
  • Like January, “April” is a lovely “monthly” name and is, in fact, the most popular month-inspired name amongst Stikins ® customers.
  • “May” is another popular name, as is Maia – the Greek Goddess for whom the month of May was named.
  • “June” takes second place amongst our customers, while Juno (the Roman Goddess from January) also has strong associations with the month of June.
  • While we didn’t have any name labels for Augustus (the Roman emperor for whom the month is named), we did print labels with the name “August” itself.

Sadly, so far, we haven’t printed any name labels for a February, March, July, September, October, November, OR December – but there’s plenty of time yet!

If you are in need of name labels to prepare your children’s belongings for the back-to-school period, please do not hesitate to contact the Stikins ® team today! You can order a pack via phone, email or post OR you can fill in our handy online enquiry form here.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day To One & All!

Friday, March 17th, 2017

Yes, today is Saint Patrick’s Day, and celebrations are taking place all around the world in honour of Saint Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland.

Name Labels Paddy's Day

Did You Know:

  • March 17th is the Feast Day of Saint Patrick because it is the traditional date given for his death.
  • Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, Nigeria, and Montserrat, as well as engineers and paralegals – he is also invoked for protection against snakes, sins, and witchcraft.
  • Saint Patrick adopted the name Patrick (or “Patricius” in its original Latin form); his real birth name is unknown, although “Maewyn Succat” is commonly used.
  • While he is the patron saint of Ireland, he was actually born in Roman Britain – locations in both Wales and Scotland have claimed to be his actual place of birth.
  • Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations involve a LOT of green because green is traditionally used as the national colour of Ireland BUT Saint Patrick is also associated with blue and “Saint Patrick’s Blue” is used as the official colour of state, featuring on the Irish coat of arms and the presidential standard of the President of Ireland. Blue is also used as an official colour by a variety of Irish universities, sports teams, and military units.
  • The shamrock is associated with Saint Patrick’s Day because a traditional story claims that Saint Patrick used the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the Christian Holy Trinity – it has since become associated with Ireland and is often used as one of the traditional symbols of Ireland. The shamrock itself is a type of clover – although there remains some dispute as to whether or not the shamrock is a specific variety of clover (with Trifolium dubium (lesser trefoil) and Trifolium repens (white clover) being the two varieties most commonly considered to be shamrocks).
